Before I tried it, my thoughts were going to be laggy and not going to be as a standalone drawing tablet.
But, I was wrong.
So, I started with a basic flat headshot. This was made with Medibang. Just like drawing on a surface, for the least amount of problems and the best performance. Pretty much like drawing on a Wacom.
What did I use to get this to work? You may ask. It's pretty easy, I've used two apps. Duet display to get the second screen up and running and easy canvas so I can draw with it. Surprisingly this set up is pretty much dose the job. But, I have a feeling when Astropad comes to windows this year, it might be a better set up.
So, to test it out, I did a basic flat headshot. (Sorry for not having a wip pics)
So, knowing it works i wanted to put this to the test.
So, I fired up photoshop and wanted to get used to it. Instead of drawing asher or jarper, I've had another character in mind. Do you guys remember my eastern dragon/ rattlesnake hybrid OC? This gave me the perfect opportunity to make art of her and to see if photoshop will work it's my set up.
So, the first drawing. I wanted to do something basic to get the feel of the 2 apps. So I've used some photoshop brushes that I use when I'm drawing on my pc. They are made by Jazza.
Just like Medibang, photoshop did not have signs of slowing down. I could run discord and photoshop at the same time and I have not had any problems. Most likely that's my pc and your mileage may vary. Besides that, the drawing came out just fine.
So, I started working on something advance.
Basically I started with a sketch on my iPad, not on my computer. I want to make sure I got the sketch right.
After sketching, I started to move the drawing to my computer. Creative cloud does have some problems with upload speeds... But I got it to work. Just like the first photoshop drawing, it worked like I'm drawing on a real drawing tablet. But, besides the lack of support of the side "Button" of the apple pencil. It worked perfectly fine.
Will it replace your drawing tablet? Maybe, it's up to the person. You'll probably get more use out of it if you use a mac than a windows pc. For me, if I had a Wacom or Huion it will be a complete no. If you don't have any drawing monitor or you have one that's not that good /dead and you have an iPad with apple pencil. Go for it, its actually prity good. Also, Astropad should be coming out this year.
