Ever since the rise of games like Counter Strike, Street Fighter, Call of Duty and League of Legends and Dota, esports have gained mass popularity over the years. But there's a question people in the community ask, is it REALLY a sport? It's a question that no one can agree on.
WHAT IS ESPORTS.
Esports or competitive gaming is professional teams or indivis compete with each other for prize or for fun. Leagues like ESL (electronic sports League) MLG (major league gaming) EVO. games like call of duty have their own league. And halo bing the first esport in the x-games at austin tx. So what's the problem. Some people will say chess and gambling is a sport.
WHAT MAKES It A SPORT.
In the world where chess and competitive poker count as a sport. Esport is just look like it should be. But critics always talk about that the former has more skill. But there's some games like rainbow six siege (ubisoft) and starcraft (blizzard entertainment) show how games that have a higher skill curve than chess have. And games like halo 5:guardians (microsoft/ 343) and league of legends (riot games) allows a more diverse age that poker. Than you bring up thing like the halo world chapanchips at the austin x-games and the push from japan and south korea to make competitive gaming as an olympic sport.
WHAT IS IT NOT.
The main argument is it's not as physical as some games like football, soccer and basketball. And with people being up and armes about the idea and dismiss it. The only problems is the stigma and the push from game devs and journalist trying to make it and art. Gaming often uses the most competitive examples than the artsy ones.
MY EXPERIENCES.
I’ve haven't played professionally, but i've been in small tournaments. But the games that are have massive esport sien ive are the ones i pleaded. The games i played the most is battlefield and halo. I've played battlefield since bf4 had releases and wint back to bad company to see what i can do. But the game i had competitive experience was halo. My background with halo 4 started when I was 12 when i used to go to a friends house and played. When I got my 360 my mom also bult be halo 4. Before i used to play it with my friends on there xbox.
Like i said, i’ve never played professionally , just on competitive games. So i’ve somewhat have no idea what professionals think.
CONCLUSION.
With the rise of esports it's not clear. The debate is all in at the end is opinuns. Some what like art. But we need to not throw out the opportunity and popularity of this. I’ll keep up to date with this. I recommend you do the same.
